Automation that ops will actually run
A clever notebook is not a workflow. Client automation needs clear inputs, logs, and a story for what happens on failure.
Jobs that fit Python well
- CSV/Excel imports into Laravel or WordPress-backed systems
- Nightly reconciliation between payment exports and invoices
- PDF/report generation from database snapshots
- Glue between APIs that do not need a full microservice
Guardrails we insist on
- Idempotency — rerunning yesterday’s job should not duplicate rows
- Dry-run mode — show what would change
- Structured logs — timestamps, counts, and error samples
- Secrets outside the repo — env or a secret manager
- Scheduling ownership — cron/CI with a human on-call path
When it should become a service
If multiple teams trigger the same job with different parameters, or it must share auth with a web app, we graduate the script into a small FastAPI/Laravel job. Scripts are a stage, not always the destination.
Rayaxis uses Python as a sharp tool beside the main stack — not as a second product nobody maintains.
